Default Storage condition.

Hi,

As some of you know, I am quite new to Lugers. I was looking at the Luger Manual that may be downloaded from Mitchell's Mausers and it states:

"Do not dry fire, but do store your pistol in the fired position" (I imagine so springs are not compressed?).

The cleaning procedure ends with racking back the toggles and "letting them slam forward." ... would this not leave the weapon "cocked" not "fired position"?

How would one leave it in fired position? I suppose you could use a snap cap, but would have to leave it in place (which would leave the loaded chamber indicator up, which I am a little uncomfortable with on a loaded gun)?

Thoughts, corrections, guidance? Thanks!

Chris

With the pistol off of safe, lift the toggle knobs slightly and pull back a short distance until you feel spring pressure. Hold it there and pull and hold the trigger and let the toggle knobs down slowly into battery. The striker is now in the fired or uncocked position.

Thanks Neil! I will give it a shot ... rather, I will give it a try.

I also tend not to let things "Slam forward" on collectable guns...

Mitchell's manual, like his marketing, takes some liberties and codifies some misconceptions.

Parts of an original DWM manual are visible here:

You can download the Century International Arms book here:

Always remember that a Luger can be a perfectly functional firearm while disassembled...

That procedure works great, thank you very much.

Things seem so simple once you know what you are doing!
