Lugercollector.
He asked if I'd post these pictures, so here they are, any comments on the type of holster he said would be appreciated. Looks like a Pigskin for a P38. Are there any markings on it? SteveM

I don't know, I have a "Russian" holster made from pigskin that fits my Luger that has this look, but is different.
Hopefully Lugercollector will be able to answer that, :>) Ed |

This is clearly a pigskin P-38 holster but the color is interesting; I haven't run across more than a hand full of brown ones over the years.
As a sidebar, I have two late war "Universal" (My terminology) holsters that are of the same P-38 break away design as the one pictured but have the luger skate key tool pouch sewn inside the flap. Both are Waffened. Although Bender's book lists these as East german, I believe that they are legit late war production; afterall, why make two types of holsters for two types of service pistols when one with a minor modification will suffice. But, as no documentation has surfaced on these, it is simply my theory. Tom |

I got the gun of a vet who took it from an officer in september 44..battle for fort nieulay in france...he told me that was the holster it came in...no markings on it at all..makes sense that it is a p38 holster..Itried a p38 and it fitted perfectly ....as a side note...the canadians(royal winnipeg rifles)that captured this fort got a hold of the german paymaster who had a suitcase full of francs....divided up the spoils amongst themselves...$10,000.00 worth...back then a fair chunk of change!!!!!

I have P38 holster as that shown. However mine is not as clean. There are no markings on the one I have. I think the only way they could mark them would be by ink on the inside as the finish of the Pigskin makes stamping almost impossible to see.

Are all Luger pigskin holsters, and they are all stamped exactly the same as the leather ones, but, I have seen several late war P.38 soft shell holsters that had no markings (or stampings)of any kind on them, I have never had the opportunity to buy a pigskin P.38 holster, The one pictured is quite nice! till....later....G.T.

I had the opportunity to have a look at this holster this morning....friendship between collectors....POLICE issue P-38 holster from an occupied country or police force. Holsters used by the Germans were black. A very nice & interesting piece indeed....Thanks Peter

Not all Holsters were Black there are some Brown P 38 Hard Shells out there also. How about all the Brown Luger Holsters as well. Check Benders book on Military Holsters.
