Mauser S/42 1938...please help!!!

First off, I'm obviously new here and hope to be a long time member and I'm looking to purchase my first Luger of hopefully many.

So here's the deal...I've got access to pick up a S/42 1938 P-08 Luger. All major serial numbers are matching that I can tell, it's sporting the correct Mauser military proofs. It's showing honest wear, I'd say something like low to mid 70 percent, nice plum bluing in the places I think it should be. The grips are correct and matching, the magazine does not match. Only one grip screw is orginal, the other is a brass replacement.

I've always wanted a Luger, I can remember fondling one my buddies dad inherited and just looking at it for what seemed like hours. I've got the money but I don't know if the price is right to take the plunge. The price tag is $1200 which I really don't know if it's worth it? That's the dilemma....I'm not wanting a collector per say, I'm going to shoot the bugger! I've read that the S/42's are good shooters, I just don't know about the price? Needless to say.....HELP!!!???

Assuming that the brass screw has not buggered the threads and you can simply screw in a replacement, I'd say the price is about right. Maybe a couple of dollars high, but that is regional, and a bird in the hand...
I vote that you go for it. Buy it, shoot it rarely, and take care of it, and you will have a Luger that you enjoy looking at.
But if you really want a down and dirty shooter you may be able to save a few bucks and risk nothing by shooting it. True shooters bring from $750 to $1000.

does it come with any accessories? i.e., holster, extra magazine, tool.

There is a handmade holster holster non-orginal, and just the single non-matching holster coming with this. Nothing else of note.

If it's a reblued shooter, then yes, $1200 is at the very high end for a shooter. But it looks nice in the few pictures you showed, certainly more than 70%. If it's original finish it's worth a lot more than $1200.

I totally agree with David, there is no point spending so much if what you want is a shooter to use at the range.
Anyway IMHO
