For those not familiar with him, Jean Shepherd was a prolific writer and radio personality that grew up in Hammond, Indiana near Chicago in the 1920's and 1930's.

This movie was based on several of his short stories, which were based on some of his personal stories embellished and told on the radio.

He served in the signal corps in WW-II and was heard on radio in Cincinnati, Philadelphia and New York. In many ways, he was the 20th century's Mark Twain.

Many of his broadcasts on WOR can be downloaded from Archive.org.
