In case you are consindering to use it attachd to your new Commercial rig, be aware that this configuration is illegal according to the BAFT rules.

Can you even possess a stock if you don't own a gun that it can legally be attached to?

Yes, as long as you don't own a gun it can be illegaly attached to. ATF refers to this as the "intent to construct" an illegal Short Barreled Rifle, whether that's true or not.
