Erfurt opinion

I was looking at this today. How desirable is this as a shooter and how much would it be worth? It is all matching including the grips and is supposed to have a "good" bore. I like the original patina but with the grips so worn wouldn't it have seen a lot of use?

I looked at that gun on gunsinternational - it's an overpriced Piece of Crap, and the guy selling it doesn't even know how to spell wear (ware?).

If you are willing to spend $1200 on that, look at this -->

It is a nice matching 1916 that you can shoot without worrying about hurting it - if you think its too much you can always make an offer. I may get in trouble for saying this but it's not what I call collectable - I would shoot it if I owned it.

You can also try Tom Heller (Lugerdoc). He may have a shooter Luger laying around he will sell you for $1000 or less. You can trust him. I think this is still his #: 636-447-3006.

I offered him $1,000 shipped for the one I linked and he wouldn't take it. That is why I come here, to learn. I wasn't going any higher. I like the one you linked.

It would be a good "first Luger" for somebody that wanted just to take some practice with Lugers, maybe I would not even call it a shooter, considering its age.

There is a $1375 DWM 1913 in the trader column. If over budget, you can put down $1000, ask the seller to reserve it for you, and save extra $375 (or ~$400 plus shipping, or if you can talk the shipping into the asking price

) in the next few months. Better than paying $1000 straight on this Erfurt IMO.

Hi Tony, The luckiest thing that ever happened to you was when your $1,000.00 offer was refused. That Erfurt is so horrible I get the creeps just looking at the photos.

I recently picked up a 1914 Erfurt much like the one under discussion- all matching, but 20% finish. The bore, after cleaning, turned out to be good-very good, and it is an excellent shooter. The parts alone are worth the $800 I paid for it.

I can't get their zoom feature to work, but overall it seems fine as a shooter. My only reservation, and this includes the one I'm selling, is that I'm just not sure that the early guns make the best shooters. I shoot them all, but my go-to 4" is a 1936. But if the price is right I guess that the fear of breaking a part really doesn't matter.

Whats everyones opinion on the apparent excessive grip wear..?......The reason i ask is last year i purchased a 1918 DWM from Simpsons.......and the Grips show excessive wear...you can even see the imprint of a hand on the right side.........its Baffling to me as I cant conceive how you could shoot a Luger that much..???....I would really appreciate an opinion from you guys as it has me completely stumped

Don't you suppose that someone used sandpaper to "imprint" their hand into the grip for personaliztion/customization reasons. IE Trench-art.
I agree that it would take a long time to realistically wear into the grip under battlefield, where the handgun was a secondary weapon.
Once, again I wish they could talk because they would have some stories to tell.

Pretty sure on the luger you looking at,the magazine is not aftermarket.
Its for a Portuguese contract luger,not correct for that gun,but still some collector value.
I have one of those mags,even to same style electro pencil numbers.
Gun looks in pretty good shape,esp for the price.
