To see this rifle, click on the link below, and then on 'Semi-Automatic'. It's the top rifle on the page that comes up, I believe: http://www.collectiblefirearms.com/R...nMilitary.html This rifle is an incredible find. Take your time with the pics. Does this mean that we all have to be concerned about any collectable firearm that's ever transited US borders? I rather doubt it. The return of this one was specifically requested by the Polish government. It was looted by the Germans after Poland fell early in WWII. The fact that it might have been seen as legitmate war booty by some GI and later his family means little. The same process is used to recover artwork and other looted assets. Mr. Gasior's only error might have been to offer this rifle for sale. It's existance then became known.

He's listing it at a price, why didn't Polish government simply buy it back ? |

Why buy it back when you might get it for free?

At least, paying $$ can prevent the current owner doing any damage to the gun, for example, engraving his name on the metal or wood stock. Not saying he would do that, but people's behavior in fury is hard to predict.
And, for Polish government, that gun's cost can be ignored. Going though other ways is not free either. ==== Never mind. Just read the news in mrerick's link. Too late. It's simply robbery in home. |

I wonder if it's not considered a legitimate "War Prize" because Poland was on our side?

Wait until they come for the lugers and other weapons. Especially those taken from the displays at the Mauser factory.

By what stretch of the imagination does this matter fall under the purview of the DHS??? None of their business.
This, and not the Twin Towers, has been the jihadists greatest victory against freedom.....they've given our government the excuse to march towards totalitarianism...the DHS is the new Gestapo. Last edited by nukem556; 03-28-2013 at 11:51 AM. |

We should feel lucky. It's good to know that Polish government is interested in Polish guns only. They won't come to confiscate German guns.

If Poland gets away with it, how long will it be until other countries jump on the bandwagon?
