Question on take down lever- Updated with Photos

It is owned by a friend of mine, and he sent me the photo. He said that thee is no import markings on the pistol, so I thought it was a little strange that the take down lever looks that way. I will get to see the luger in person on Tuesday. He said it is a 1941/ 1942 BYF Mauser. I first thught it might be a Russian Rework but the finish looks to be original.
