The Lugers with ivory grips are quite striking but I am particularly taken with Hugh's Colt The before and after photos display just what can be done artisan-wise.

Hugh, did you have the revolver's finish restored before the engraving and may I ask who did the restoration and engraving? The ivory grips set off the piece perfectly

I sent it to Nutmeg Sports, they did the work; the engraver is Jerome Harper, contract Master Engraver for Colt, the finish is "antique nickel" applied after engraving. I supplied the Ivory grips.
