Much as I admire the young man for his bravery and judgement, this incident could lead to some problems because of his age. In our state (NC) young people under the age of 18 are not allowed to have unsupervised access to any firearm. We have to store them in a way that a young person could not use it. There is both criminal and civil liability should a young person use a firearm.

Right after our Castle Doctrine came into effect in December, 2011 a 14 year old defended himself and his sister as two people broke into his home. His parents were not home at the time. Luckily, the district attorney chose not to pursue charges. I hope that is what happens in this Texas incident.
