Okay, I already know the answer.
I had this 1910 receiver, pre-1913 frame (has cool unit markings, front strap and rear), but the fit was never really good, and I slapped some ugly grips on it. Here it is

I wanted a six inch barrel for a while and preferred it in 9mm, but Hugh had one in 30 Luger, so we made a trade. Then, that same weekend another close friend was at Phoenix and I mentioned my trade, he said, I saw one that was 9mm?
He brokered a deal and now, I have a blinged out 9mm 6 inch! (Hugh and i still traded, can never have enough barrels). And I have a couple of sets of antler, these actually are for a grip safety, but hey ![]() It is marked 'Dewey 9mm" on the barrel, anyone know him? Ed |

Approx. 1-1 1/2 years ago, I purchase a 1939 receiver with a 5in. barrel and a ramped front sight. The barrel is marked 9mm by J Dewey. I have tried to get info on him, but had no luck. I have used it as a conversion for my 30 Luger DWM Alphabet Luger so that I can shoot both calibers with the same frame/lock works.
The receiver and the barrel had been blued, and they look good. The receiver was over buffed, as is frequently done. I had to have it headspaced after I installed an Erfurt toggle train. It works good, but really only likes PMC 115gr ammo(most likely due to a sloppy headspacing job.....will never use him again!!). |

How would they head-space it? Turn the barrel tighter in?

With a chamber reamer. The chamber in my barrel was too short, and most likely had never been finish reamed. In all honesty, I believe that my "gunsmith" did not have the correct size of chamber reamer, and made do with what he had. I plan to have the chamber ledge cleaned up later on next year if things work out. At least it is headspaced to the absolute minimum, so I have some working room and still be within spec.

I am not sure, but I may have actually met John Dewey at a gunshow back in the late 1960's or early 1970's... at my age... you can never be sure!
