I own a very similar Star pistol, but mine has an angular contour to the barrel all the way up to the muzzle. The barrel on mine is not round.

My dad was a forester in the Carolinas and carried one of those in the swamps. He brought home several rattlesnake tails over the years thanks to his Model F. His had the longer, round barrel just like the one on the box. My first memory of any gun was of his Star. I've been looking for one for years.

I'd love a high-res scan of that box art if you have the means.

I am having computer problems, the pics I posted are on my laptop which has decided the display is not to work anymore. As soon as I get everything squared away, I'll scan that for you.

I was offered one of those not too long ago, the guy was asking $250 but I don't know much about them so I didn't want to take a chance. It seemed to be a very well built gun though, all steel and with a quality far better than the molded zinc .22s you find nowadays.

By the way, didn't Unique make a very similar gun?

That being said, A friend of mine did manage to crack one of the rails on the slide's front "stirrup" on his example.

There's a 7" barrel Star F on GB right now...Starting price = $299...

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=311680376

5 days left...No bids...

I was thinking of bidding on it...but I have a Ruger SS 22 auto that I never shoot; why get another...

Thanks! I need to check GB more often...for various reasons... or maybe not.

Maybe I'm cheap, but is that/are those really a $300 gun? No bids suggests I have the answer.

Did you look at *completed* auctions???

For Star F .22 I see 5 completed auctions, with prices of -

$395
$260
$375
$385
$320

This would tend to tell me that $300 is right in the ball park...IF I want one...

Star pistols seem to be underated in gerneral. If you can pick up any model in great condition for $300 you have a bargain.

There was a glut of Star BMs about a year ago...Story I got from a dealer was the Israeli's [their police?] dumped a boatload of them...I got two; one Spanish National Police & one Israeli...

Very nicely made handguns...
