Check out the latest issue of American Rifleman. It has detailed instruction and illustration for disassembly and assembly of the Luger pistol.

I agree 100%. I also get American Rifleman and am mostly dissatisfied with every issue. I wish now I had kept the back issues I had from the '40's-'60's I sold when we moved.
They could have devoted less space to the "black" rifles and "Plastic" pistols and done a really good takedown article. Instead they gave us a rudimentary field strip with dangerous misinformation.

I've found that the majority of gun related magazines today are run by industry hacks, with little knowledge of firearms history.

These rags have mostly become shills for their advertisers and there are very few "outdoor men" left to write first hand experience stories.

We are slowly seeing the end of an era.

There was a gun magazine I was looking at, Surplus Arms or the like and I noticed that about 50-60% of the articles were written by one person.

I have noticed in American Rifleman that usually there are a couple of folks who write the articles on C&R type guns, and I always think, wish they had asked US first!

Again,...hacks just turning out another story by deadline.

You can break down the content of the majority of today's gunzines into about ten topics.

This is true of the magazine articles and the TV gun shows. They just do not seem to want accuracy just volume. The other NRA pub. American Hunter is in the same boat. Most of the hunts are guided on private land somewhere. I have nothing against guided hunts but most of us cannot afford that type of hunting if indeed it even is hunting. End of soapbox. Bill

I would add to the criticism of this article that the annotated photo showing "parts of the Luger" mis-identifies the firing pin guide as the firing pin, and in "Step 13" firing pin removal is described but it is not included in the photo (just the firing pin guide again). An uninformed reader would assume that the firing pin guide is the firing pin.

I also note on "Step 15" that the takedown lever "is pushed out with the finger." Perhaps the ratty-looking S/42 in the photos is missing the retaining spring.

I am not inclined to purchase the "invaluable" book endorsed in the article.

I'm just thankful that almost every interesting and collectable firearm has had a community of interested people form on the Internet.

This is turning out to be the best place to find out facts, experience, truth and good discussion.

When I turned to the page with the article, I must admit that my first thought was "Great... whey do they have to start with us... ".

This all reminds me of the "expert" comments from the NRA museum curator a year or so ago. At least they listened and corrected their misstatements.

Perhaps we should do a group "Letter to the NRA Editor" with corrected information?
