What Vilm has stated above is most definitely another facet of the entire ejection process under artificial vs actual firing. The weight of the unfired cartridge, while the Luger is held in the firing position, and the toggle is opened by hand can definitely misrepresent what actually happens when fired.
If I am going to manually cycle dummy(no powder, no primer) rounds through a Luger to check for extraction, I rotate the Luger 90 degrees to the left to allow the cartridge to remain positioned correctly on the breechface. This works for me. The function of the magazine has a lot to do with the correct functioning of the extraction process, although some don't agree. |
