Erfurt 1914 receiver
Hi
100 mm barrel Erfurt Lugers dated 1917 and 1918 have generally a machined recess for the artillery sight , on front of the receiver. Now what about 1914 issues ? Somebody offers me such an Erfurt , that seems to have ( according to pictures ) the original barrel, but with this recess on the receiver Is it possible that somme serials of receivers , machined for the artillery barrel, were finally issued with the standard 100 mm barrel ? maybe just to finish a batch ? thanks for the help |

Hi Mecano,
ALL Erfurt Lugers were manufatured with the Artillery sight cut in the receiver, regardless of barrel length. The gun being offered is correct in that respect. |

Not necessarily ALL Erfurt Lugers had the cut for the artillery sight. The original, REAL 1914 dated P08 Erfurts up to serial numbers in the mid b range with other characteristics to differentiate them from later Erfurts, did not have the artillery sight cut. This has been discussed previously on this Forum. I hope others who know more about this will chime in as well.

There are legit P08 Erfurts dated 1916 and 1917 with the receiver without the cut for the artillery sight. If I remember correctly (?), these were made with previously made receivers (pre-1914) but they are plain, correct Erfurts as well.

Many thanks for these replies !
the tangent sight cut seems to be a quite " random characteristic " on all "war period " Erfurt's according to the seller the serial number of this 14 is in the low " b" range |
