The grill bars on a Mercury of that vintage are horizontal...the Ford's are vertical, as in the photo above. By the way, that Ford and I are the same age...but I'm not a Deluxe model!

I could me mistaken guys, but I believe 1940 is the first year with the head lights in the fenders. Definately a Ford Deluxe coupe.

Default Yep! You're all right, I'm wrong.

I dug out the old pictures and, yep, fav unc had a Merc. But, nope, his grill was different than the beauty in the picture. Memory seldom serves anymore...but thanks for the lovely stroll down memory lane.

And, yes, they were both sweet little cars!

Not sure of the exact date of transition, but sometime in 1939 the headlights moved from between the fenders and the grill onto the fenders. At any rate, the headlights on the fenders occurred prior to 1940 (I think! )

Golly Ron, If you are not a Deluxe model, I would say you are more of a Special Edition
