I agree with Dwight..Like anything else you might want to build up from parts..it's always more expensive. Better to buy the whole thing in the case of a Luger. Looks like a nice frame but it will always be a parts gun.

Perhaps if he can get the remaining parts for next to nothing and competently fit them himself, he might wind up with a presentable, but inescapably mismatched, shooter worth maybe a couple hundred more, if it's done right. Now, allow me to place this snowball in a 375 degree oven and check to see if it's still there in the morning...

Agreed. There is always that ONE case where somebody just happens to have enough parts laying around and just need a frame. To that person's mind the gun cost a total of $400.

I did a survey at home. "For around $400, which one you want .....

1) a Luger frame in nice shape;
2) a tiny 1/4 oz Krugerrand;
3) a new iPad 2;
4) forget it, I keep greenback.

Spouse picks 4). Kid picks 3). I pick 2). No one wants 1).

While a P08 frame in good condition for $400.00 might not seem like a good deal to most of us, it would be a different story if one happened to own a DWM upper or, say, an Artillery with a ground stock lug. Regards, Norm

My Arty had its stock lug ground off. I paid G.T. about 1/16 of that $400 for a rear frame half that still had the lug, to prepare for that project. So if it's for a project that uses less than half of the frame, it makes more logistical and economic sense to buy one of those chunks. I see better advantage taken of what's there to use it for a Martz style conversion, which, if one used a big front "half" of this frame to marry to the other donor's big back "half", then he'd have remaining the smaller back "half" from this one for a stock lug restoration!

I say, if you're going to chop up something irreplaceable, be as creatively frugal as you can with the material and use every possible bit of it.

If we use the "Simpson Rule"* we'd multiply the price by 0.66 arrive at a figure that is more humane and in line with what we'd think it should cost. Doesn't $260 sound more reasonable?

Most Lugers on RIAC sold well today, going near the high estimation (before counting the BP). A few guns even go above high estimation. But today's Lugers sold were 'ordinary' ones, let's watch tomorrow's show. P38s also outperform estimations (still going on...).

I know of at least one case where a forum member came into possession of a gun as payment of a debt. He knew nothing about Lugers at the time. When he showed it to me years later I pointed out that the primary serial number had been removed and his possession constituted a felony. The rest of the gun was a mixture of parts. My advice was immediate destruction of the frame followed by disposal on the nearest large body of salt water. He gladly spent money to by a stripped frame to be able to keep his favorite.pistol.

Sometimes, waiting for a good price too long is boring. I waited a FN 1905 parts donor for 5-6 years and could not find one..... blocked by what? $100. Finally, tired. Forget that $100, which not worth years of headache, and bought one "donor". To my surprise, the overall condition that supposed donor is actually slightly better than the beneficiary..... the plan had to be cancelled, result became a "upgrade".
