Gortz & Sturgess has a reference to the matter and coincides in identifying 2 examples marked "Ejercito Mexicano" on the left side, marking probably made in Mexico SNs 12880 & 12888 ( pages 878 & 881). 12880 is pictured and photo identified courtesy of Robert Simpson.. Apparently the contract was never signed. I would guess that a small batch of about 50 examples for trials was probably purchased around 1903/1905 for evaluation. I am very much on the lookout for hese pistols in local collections.
Best regards,

We have a great deal of information on SN ranges, I would like to suggest that we readdress the Mexican Contract Lugers and see if we can actually see where they might fit in.
Approach this as new research, not an addition to old data. I am very suspicious of early documented guns but believe that some test guns may actuality be out there. Vern |

Pedro Capetillo, an advanced Mexican Collector who has a home on Reforma in Lomas Chapultepec, would be the one collector in Mexico I would ask. It has been years, but the last time I visited Pedro his Luger collection numbered well over 100 choice, unusual variations. |
