Default Corrosion X

Has anyone used Corrosion X on their Luger before? Are they good to prevent or remove rust? Will it damage the original finish and the strawed parts on the Lugers? How does it compare to Boeshield?

Never heard of this before or the other one? What kind of oil are they?

Normal oil and rust prevention is what is needed; anything too harsh and you'll screw something up (finish, grips, etc)

There have been several threads on this, maybe do a search for "oil rust prevention" etc and see what has been talked about.

CorrosionX is best at stopping rust and getting underneath it and preventing it. This product was developed for the oil and gas industry and the aviation industry as well. It works best as a rust preventative coating and keeps rust at bay for years at room temperature.

I'm an aircraft mechanic for an aerospace company and I get to use it all the time . excellent stuff but if you can find a product called acf 50 I find this to be a much better product . I have thought about using this myself many a times but just never have tried it .it is an anti corrosion formula required to protect, penetrate , and lubricate such aircraft components as aircraft interior skins, electrical components, switches, motors, hinges, terminal, pretty much any in aviation.

I have a tropical used luger that has a rust finish , I have been testing Corrosion X on it for about a year with no problems.

It is suppose to get under the rust and prevent it from forming, my fear is that it might over time remove rust bluing

Its mineral oil based, interesting for you shooters out there, they claim higher velocity if used as a barrel lubricant.

So far so good. But you know I worry about all this high tech stuff.

Will let you know if I see any detrimental results.

CorrosionX has never hurt anything I have that has a blue finish, in fact it is only something that attacks red rust.

Another great product for safely removing removing rust and corrosion you might want to try is call AeroKroil.

http://www.kanolabs.com/

I find ACF 50 to still be the best.

here's a place to find it....

ACF 50 will not hurt the finish. ACF 50 has been used by the military for years.

Default Ed's Red too!

Everytime I get a new pistol I take off the grips and soak it in a bath of Ed's Red overnight. One part deodorized Kerosene, one part deodorized minerals spirits (Varsol) and Automatic Transmission Fluid...one part acetone is optional. This stuff really gets your gun clean, eats under the rust, but won't harm bluing and lubricates at the same time. For more information do a Google search on Ed's Red.

I've used 'CorrosionX for Guns' on virtually every gun I own for years....that includes S&W Registered Magnums and Colt 1873's.
It is the best protective lubricant available, IMHO.
Doesn't hurt any finishes, protects the firearms.
It's vouched for by many senior collectors in all segments of our hobby.
Hope this helps.

I've been using Corrosion X as well as Reel X(same company) on my guns for years, actually lubes as well, I think it's better than CLP. Anything you have rust on, just soak it overnight and the rus actually will drain and seperate from the metal partg

If the US Navy and Military Aviation loves this stuff for a preservative and rust preventative it has to have been tested vigorously.

Default rust penetrant and gunk remover

This came from an aircraft maintenence forum.

Machinist's Workshop magazine actually tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts.
Significant results! They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque
required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment.
*Penetrating oil ..... Average load*
None ..................... 516 pounds
WD-40 .................. 238 pounds
PB Blaster ............. 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ..... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ............ 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix....53 pounds

The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone.

Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.

Further reseach called for type F Xmission fluid.

I have used this for years and been amazed at the corosion and gunk that it pulls out.

If it is clean enpugh to re-use, store it in an air tight container, otherwise the acetone evaporates.

Hope this is useful,

Tim

Will it reduce straw color?

How many of you have used ACF 50 on you Lugers. I just don't want to damage the blueing or strawing. It sounds like a great product and I'd like to give it a try...
