Actually for home/self defense, I prefer my Mossberg 590 12 ga.

The W+F P06/29 shown at the bottom of the photo is the most accurate gun I have, and totally reliable. The one shown on top remains unfired. I have no problem with carrying a 1906 pattern Luger with a round in the chamber.

As Bill Jordan put it, “Speed is fine but accuracy is final.” So I would take the W+F P06/29 over the P38, being that the latter is neither accurate nor reliable. But for all-purpose social work, I prefer the SIG P210 and the Manurhin MR73 to any other handgun.

Have to go with the P-38. It is accurate enough at 10-15 yards, and I've never had a jam out of my matching byf 44. Simple/quick to disassemble, and it fits well in my hand. I like my Luger well enough, but in general prefer the P-38 for everyday plinking.

One well placed shot from either pistol will have the same effect. But I think the double action on the p.38 would make the difference for me. (Although I would look cooler pulling out a luger opposed to a p.38)

Would the fact that they can and did fire the same ammo affect your decision?

Well I would choose a 45 if I hd my choice. But If it was a luger or a p.38 I think the luger would be a more difficult weapon to perform remedial action on in the event of a jam. 9mm wouldnt be my first choice but a well placed round will stop someone as quick as anything/

Sieger, Your description of the P1 actually goes back to at least WW2, as this was exactly the same description a Luftwaffe vet once gave me of his issued FN22. TH
