Gene / Hank, not sure what you are looking for?

And I am married, so not looking for a date, but to answer your questions;

what is your favorite assault rifle? M1 Garand
What is your favorite High powered bolt action military rifle? NONE (although I have an Arisaka and won't kick any gun out of the safe except to upgrade my collection)
What is your favorite Submachine gun? THOMPSON, DO YOU HAVE ONE YOU CAN SHIP TO ME?
Besides a Simpson Luger and Kreighoff, WHAT is the one Luger you would DIE to aquire..... NOBODY MADE A SIMPSON , I own the lowest number known Simson, a Krieg would be fine, but more interested in a 1926 Simson

Do you like The Rolling Stones and The Doors? Not really
.

A lot of WWII Marines in the Pacific might disagree with you!

Sorry, but we do not need to give the anti gun people support.

(From Wikipedia)

An assault rifle is a selective fire (selectable between semi-auto and fully automatic) rifle (capable of being fired from the shoulder) that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine.[1][2][3][4]

Assault rifles are categorized in between light machine guns, which are intended more for sustained automatic fire in a light support role, and submachine guns, which fire a pistol cartridge rather than a rifle cartridge.

Examples of assault rifles include the Kalashnikov family, M16 rifle, M14, SA80, G36, FN F2000, and the Steyr AUG.

Assault rifle is a newer term, but I stick with my original comment that it depends on the person's interpretation on what is or is not a assault rifle. And yes, the normal definition is as you said above. That said, it usually includes the definition of a high powered round, and yet NJ says that a M1 carbine is an evil weapon....

Well Ed

Do you want the NJ type laws to be adopted in other states, etc. ?

Remember also, that Saturday night Specials also included 1st generation Colt SSAs.

When we start adopting and using the terminology of the anti gun people we are cutting our own throats.

So when PA decides to ban assault weapons and includes the M1 Garand in the definition, they can, as a part of the rationale, use your, Hugh's and others statements as a part of the basis. After all, even the pro gun people believe and say they are (the evil) assault weapons.
