Eric, I think it's just the proclivity of navies around the world to have equipment and uniforms that are particularly pleasing to the eye. My dad, an old soldier, told me once that the reason the Marines had such pretty dress uniforms and the Navy, their dress whites, was to make their formal dances on ship more festive. My pardon asked of Ron Smith, a brown water sailor.
