Sam,


My best guess would be to find the barrel in the condition you want with the Imperial stamps and have any other numbers MIG welded to fill them in. Once this is done, the barrel can be reworked to smooth up the welding and then refinished with the rest of the pistol.


Most of the major firearms restorers use the Mif welding to fill in pits, stamps, etc. to maintain the original contours of the metal. Just a thought that might help.
