Hans, Norm has pointed out one important difference, the backing on the rear of the mag pouch, I have always thought it was a stiffener to keep from bending the magazine...there are several more.
The hinge is seperate on a WW1. On the WW2 it is like the mag pouch backing..part of the back. Notice there is no line of stitching left to right below the belt loops on the WW1.There is on the WW2. There are other subtle differences..Those above will help you identify one from the other though!

Hey, I gotta say thank you as well. I had absolutely no clue how to tell the WWI and WWII apart. Every little tid-bit of knowledge is a good thing. Thanks again Norm and Jerry.
