Exactly. Why on earth would Colt obtain a Weimar era rework, (note the 1920) with a sear safety hole evident to run tests?
This is some Colt proof house employee's lunchtime project or Colt at some point obtained new dies and these fell into the hands of a faker.

Witness the recent availability of wa amp dies and US Ordnance stamps from Gun Parts Corp. Suddenly there were dozens of M1 Carbines and Garands on the market with nice, deep Springfield Armory Crossed Cannons on the stocks and many different things from cigarrette lighters to pocket knives, all accepted by the German army.
