Default Asterix?

On one of my Luger barrels I have found what I think is an Asterix.
Does it mean that the barrel is a replacement?

Get yourself a jewlers loop..or a powerful magnifying glass..and compare that mark to the eagles proofs on the right side of the gun...thats a almost buffed out Weimer eagle/dove proof.

If the gun has it's original DWM toggle train in it..probably has a similiar eagle on the left rear of the breechbolt, by the toggle joint

Stevie- I have used a magnifying glass when I examine the mark. But I did not recognize the “eagle”, before some collectors make me attention to my misunderstanding. And of course I have try to compare the mark whit my “Abnahme & Beschuss stempel” schedule!
Thanks for your informative advice and explanation!

I seen this mark on a few 1941 dated factory installed PO8 orig serialized barrels. I agree that it could be a Nazi era replacement. TH

This is - as I see it - an interesting observation!
I notice, that the mark is on the top, not on the side of the barrel
where I think it normally is placed?
Thanks for sharing your observation whit us Tom!

Check out Joe Salters website...1921 Police Luger item #15728 some so-so pics of this marking.

The proofs on this 1921 are somewhat different than your pistol but still has some Weimer doves.. I believe the barrel marking is the same..and the same as mine..you can see the eagle on the side of the toggle train too in Joe's pics.

In your pic..the tops of the wings..and the head are on the right..and the tail and legs are to the left.

Look at the Weimer dove proofs on the right side of your gun...then imagine a smaller version on the barrel. The tops of the wings are a dead givaway.

I bet if you go over to Jan Stills Gunboards forums..Weimer Lugers..and dig around some...Ron Smith had some pics of a 1920 or 1921 DWM that was near identical to mine..only much better shape. My 1920 is probably near identical to your gun

He had some really good pics up of his gun and it's markings..if you can find them.

Jes, when searching one of my old posts, I realized that I have a 1918 DWM with the same proof on the top of the barrel as yours. It is shown in the ninth photo in this post: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=15243.
