Default Hello!

Hello. New kid here. I shouldn't say kid; I'm about to be 40. Anyway, I'm not much of a genius when it comes to Lugers and collecting them. However, my father is, very much. He finally got me interested in collecting them, but I feel as though I must do quit a bit of studying before jumping in head first. So, that's my short story! I'm here to learn about the wonderful world of Lugers!

Sorry! I'm from Cajun Country, deep in South Louisiana.

Dave welcome!

Yes, read the FAQ, read through posts, figure out what era and kind of lugers you like.

Read the "stickies" at the top of each part of the forum, i.e. New collectors, has a bunch to read, to include, "books I oughter buy".

Sounds like your Father's collection could be a great jumping off point. It's like having your own personal museum to consult as you study.

Get to know the different eras, and the history. If your father doesn't have Luger reference books, you could complement his collection by getting some. Fred Datig's "The Luger Pistol" and John Walter's "The Luger Story" are good starting points, and not too expensive. Amazon is your friend...

Thanks, guys! I appreciate your suggestions about the books. My dad has the following books in his home:

"Imperial Lugers", "Weimer Lugers", "Third Reich Lugers" and "Central Power Lugers"; all four by Mr. Jan Still.

"Lugers at Random" by Mr. Kenyon, and signed by Mr. Kenyon.

"Krieghoff Lugers" by Mr. Randal Gibson and signed by Mr. Gibson.

He also has a book by Mr. Aaron Davis, but he told me not to put much faith in that one.

In addition to all of those, he also has "Luger Variations" by Mr. Jones and "The Luger Pistol" by Mr. Fred Datig.

He has informed me that he recently added to his collection a work by Mr. Don Hallock.

I think these should keep me busy for a while! Many thanks for the welcomes and kind words!

Shoulda noticed the accent

Since the last name is the same as "Mike" I bet you are in good hands, IF you are willing to listen to the "ole" man. I think he also has a copy of Simson Luger's, if not, tell him to buy it.

If not, my son is 27 and I deal with him prety well, but sometimes you just want to talk and not listen to dad.

so, here's my email, its also my messenger, but my background is security, so I'll ignore most requests if I don't know you.

Dave, in addition to his books, your Dad is a very special and knowledgeable collector (and a friend of mine)... it's just like the old E.F. Hutton commercials... When he talks (Especially about Lugers) you should listen.

Welcome to the Lugerforum.
