Default Re: Flying with firearms :|

Over Christmas, I took my Walther PPK to Florida on Delta, declared in checked baggage. I called in advance to check if rules had changed from what is posted on the web site. The telephone agent told me I couldn't carry ammo in same case with the gun. I told her that the Delta web page said a small pistol case with up to 11 lbs of ammunition was permitted. She checked and agreed. I had no problems at the airport. On the return a gate agent said I could not have the ammunition in the same case. I showed him a printout of the web page, which forced him to check and eventually agree with me. I also had copies of all paperwork for ownership in NJ and non-resident CCW FL permit and copies of FAA web site rules and Federal regs for transporting firearms.

Many people are misinformed. By knowing the rules yourself and bringing copies, you can avoid problems with airline personnel who are supposed to know the answers, but really don't.
