Todd, thanks for the additional information. The "l" suffix is actually part of the full serial number. The number on the bottom of the barrel below the suffix is probably 8,89 and may have been double-struck. This is the actual land-to-land barrel bore measurement in mm. The S/42 on the tool indicates it is a later replacement made anytime between 1942 and the day before yesterday.
