Newjack with 1st Luger - take a look!
Hey everyone
I'm about to buy this Luger - it's a BYF42 (I have a matching 98k) with no import marks. It's all matching except for the magazine. The bore looks good, as does the finish. Too good maybe? How much should I be willing to pay? Anything at all you can tell me about this particular pistol would be greatly appreciated. Arfcom says this is the Luger board, so here I am. Be gentle! Thanks so much. |

Welcome to the forum. Perhaps some better pictures? And what is the serial number to include suffix?
What the heck is a newjack?

Hello Fenian,
Better pics are required but I can see a few positive things..... Holster wear in the right places, end of barrel and on the frame rails The markings and serial #'s look pretty crisp The safety bar is in the white byf 42's were issued most commonly with black bottom unnumbered fxo mags According to Third Reich Lugers by Jan C Still which I highly recommend....it is currently out of print so it is kind of pricey. But worth every penny." buy books then guns" Good luck, Jason |

Hi Fenian, If your Luger does not have any finish issues that can't be seen in the photos, and if ALL the numbers match, then it would be worth $1,500.00 to $2,000.00. Regards, Norm

LOL
A "Newjack" just means new guy on the block, and if we're talking about Lugers I'm definitely a newjack. Thanks for the replies so far, I feel better about dropping a lot of money (less than mentioned) on this gun, my first Luger. The pics were cellphone pics at the dealer. I'll try to get better ones up when I buy it, which I feel I'm going to do at this point. To say I'm psyched would be an understatement! |

Yep, I'm DOW on Arfcom. You got me.
OK, got more crappy cellphone pics I was toying around with the idea of trading an M1A rifle I have for this Luger but wound up paying cash, which I think will make me happier in the long run. The serial number is 4974G. Luckily for me when I showed up today to pay there were a couple of gentlemen there who helped me go over the pistol, disassemble it, etc. With their help I was able to verify that the gun was in fact all matching (other than the mag). Both these guys felt the finish and grips were original, and they seemed to know what they were talking about, in fact it wouldn't surprise me if one or both were members here. When I get it home I'll disassemble it properly and post decent pics, prolly going to be a week or so. |

The gun actually has an unnumbered (there are waffenamts present) fxo magazine with a repro mag bottom, which sounds like the mag may be original...maybe? Just need to get a proper bottom now.

As Jason stated, the magazine is proper for your 42 byf. Just try to get one like it without the chipped plastic part!! They are out there, but a little expensive!! Good Luck and congrats on your Luger!!!

Fenian, man, I'm glad I found someone more ugly than me!! I do like your color.
The plastic bottoms are one piece, molded from plastic. There are some replacements available. Lugerdoc or GT from this forum may be able to help you. Try Heller Arms LTD. Thomas W. Heller, aka Lugerdoc PO Box 398 1420 Heritage Landing #101 St Charles, MO 63302 (636) 447-3006 HellerArms@webtv.net or Gerry Tomek G.T.
