I have bought and sold probably 10-15 nickle or chromed lugers. If you have one of each, you can usually tell which is which.
You see them at larger gunshows every now and then. I am sure it is cheaper for fakers and restorers to find a reblued or mismatched luger than a chromed one to use. Because of tolerance problems or the gun was pitted and ugly, they were chromed / nickled and then the main reason is that GI's liked how it looked at the time. Those that appear to be nice sharp lettering comes up, but less rarely. . . .
