All, I have wanted to have a Luger for some time, and finally took the plunge last weekend.

I have, what I understand to be, a 1920 commercial. 9MM, and with original barrel based on s/n which matches frame. It has a "DVM scroll" and no chamber markings. It is a re-blue. S/N is 27XX and from examining parts appears to be all matching except for the magazine which is unnumbered. S/N is under the bore and on front of frame, and it has a "N" Proof on left side of frame and the word "GERMANY" on right. Bore is excellent.

It's a nice shooter and what I wanted.

I'd like to know when it was made, 1920's from ww1 parts? THANKS

Sorry only 1 pic at this time:

Joe, welcome to the forum.

it is best to post pictures directly here on the forum and not on an outside site.

You appear to have a 1920's commericial made by DWM. Can't help you with approx dating without a serial number and suffix. The designation 1920 commericial has kinda been replaced by Alphabet Luger, unless it is a rework.

It can be a WW1 that was sold on the commericial market or most likely a new made.

The magazine is a post war repro...

Thanks & understood re: pict. The s/n is 4 digit, 27XX, with a mark centered underneath which could be a "n".

What was interesting is the recoil spring guide had a broken stud so I had to get a new one from numerich. Otherwise it was in very good shape for a 80+ year old gun.

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad that you got the spring guide replaced. Your Luger looks like a fine shooter; hope you really enjoy it.

All, thanks. If the S/N is "27XX n" what (approximate) year is it.

Upon examination it has a "earlier" firing pin with no grooves for lubrication and does not have the ~1916 modification to allow the safety to be engaged when uncocked.

Thanks All (And Ed, I just bought your book on ebay from you

Joe, If new matching about 1923 production, I would expect it to have the reliever (sear) trigger bar. The pre1916 type might be appropriate for a rework of a WW1 PO8. TH

Thanks. I cannot engage the safety when it is uncocked, and it is all matching.

Is there way to check the sear visually? - Joe
