"Banner" refers to the Mauser trademark (commonly called the Mauser banner) on the toggle rather than a military code such as "byf", which was one of the wartime production codes used to disguise Mauser as the manufacturer of the weapon. The Eagle/N proof on the left side of the receiver over the serial number identifies this gun as a commercial model and therefore has the Mauser trademark.
