Lugers in movies
I saw part of "The Odessa Files" on the History Channel last weekend. A "flashback" scene has good Luger action with an SS officer shooting a decorated Wehrmacht officer during an argument.

Russel Crowe to star in a new remake of the previous TV Comedy series about GIs in a NAZI POW camp. This one is said to be a movie rather than a series and be more serious! I hope they throw in a Luger or two. ~Thor~ |

Re: Lugers in movies-Hogan's Heroes
I saw a commercial last night for a new movie due out in March about a POW camp during WWII staring Bruce Willis. Lets see what pistols we will see in this one.

It amazes me the comeback WWII movies have made. Hope this trend continues.

Re: Lugers in movies-Hogan's Heroes
I dunno, I could be wrong, but I was disappointed to see them digging up Hogan's Heroes. Normally, I have a better sense of humor, but I think it's insulting to the guys who were POW's and didn't find it a lot of fun.

Except when they made it, it was to poke fun at the Germans. If I remember correctly, Col Klink was Jewish and he played the part on purpose. At leat that is how I remember it?

Why not make "The Rat Patrol"
It always fascinated me that 4 guys with 2 jeeps with 50 cal machine guns, could always take out tiger tanks.

Sound of Music
If I remember correctly, in the scene at the end where the former suitor of the daughter has a gun on the family in the churchyard cemetary, it is a luger. What a brownshirt Austrian would be doing with it is another issue altogether.

Re: Lugers on tv
I was watching a rerun of the tv show "The Pretender". In one of the scenes toward the end of the show a Luger was shown. The scene was a flashback to an earlier time and showed the bad doctor and good doctor arguing. The bad doctor was telling the good doctor that if he wasn't for them then he was against them. The good doctor refused to go along with bad doctor who suddenly pulled a gun on him and pointed it at his chest. The next scene showed a close up of the good doctor and the Luger pointing at his chest. Thought I would pass this on to add to the list of Lugers on tv and film.

Re: Sound of Music
Very easily. The germans supplied guns to their "loyal" folllowers in all nations. He was very lucky to have the Luger because it assumes a position of power and prestige, as not many were issued them. My thoughts were like yours, but he coluld have also purchased the side arm privately as many of the Austrian families at that time were wealthy and it was a great economic boon to the "Party" to have captured such a land of great wealth. This is the true joy of collecting these period pieces, they all tell a story and by gosh, you even get a good history lesson to boot!
