Default No letter suffix?

Gun is a 42 1940 and I just noticed there is no letter suffix on the frame, under the bbl or anywhere I can see. Finish looks original for sure. Vet bring back, numbers all match. Any idea why?

It could be a replacement frame, but I would expect see evidence for that on the trigger bar.
So it's probably from between 'z' and the new beginning of 'a' serie. Don't have any books where I am right now, perhaps someone can look up on 1940 Mauser serial ranges?

Hi Phatrick, the 1940 Military Mauser Lugers serial numbers started around 5000z and continued. After the Z-Block, the next serial numbers 1 to 9999 had no suffix. If yours is all matching, it is one of these Lugers.

Congratulations!

Sorry, you will just have to be happy. No rarity there! If there is such a Luger it's a common run of the mill. BUT IT"S STILL A LUGER!!!!
