Lousiville Gun show REPORT

I assume we'll get some other reports form folks, but here is a quick recap of my experinces (not counting getting food poisoning and being sick all Saturday night and flying out 5 hours later than planned

)

Louisville show; since this was my first time, let me give a little run down on it. If you’ve been to Reno or Tulsa, think of the largest room in the building and then think a bit bigger, that was just for the Militaria show which ran from Thursday to Sunday; then the gun show has set up Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday.

Huge complex, they were simultaneously running a Home and garden and a Cattle show at the same time as these two shows!

Anyway, back to the shows. I was “saddled” because I was forced to go by myself (didn’t work out for my partner in crime Lyn and his wife, while my wife decided to stay home); so kinda abused friends in helping me watch my table.

First a GIANT thank you to my friend Charlie Wagner, he let me use half a table on Friday and that was a heck of a good start for me! At the militaria show I was shown and then bought 6 loading tools that are police marked (Geo found them for me), a German WW2 belt buckle and rifle pouches (dated 1937), originally I was going to put it with a 1937 that I had for sale, but that didn’t work out J and so now I have it to sell.

Items ranged form revolutionary war (and earlier) to wild west, WW1 and tons of WW2 items. A very cool show.

The gun show is a slight recap of the militaria show, as lots of folks move from one to the other, however folks pull more gun items out of their cars and bags and new folks showed up. Like I said, did not have a lot of time to run around, but took in trade a KM 1934 Mauser (pictures and comments for it later), bought a nice PPK from Val, bought a 1910/1920 DWM, and some more tools, mostly WW2 era.

Friends; well, I had more visits and fun with these guys than any other show I have ever been too~!

Lets see, had a nice visit with Doug Coffee; Geo Anderson, Ron Wood, Bill Friedner, Dave Molchen and Dave Zimmerman. And scores of other folks, just a really good time visiting and all. Bill picked up a stunner of a 1929 police luger with 2 matching mags that I was a bit jealous of, but of course happy for him! J

Ed, any comments on the lugers? Any good or unusual pieces?

There were hundreds of lugers (probably were) at the show, a Borchardt, I saw 2 or 3 guys with 15-20 lugers that were very nice. Some "too nice", but I saw lots of nice real lugers. One that some scoffed at being too high, but if real, probably wasn't. It said it was a test luger, but it also included Ideal grips and Ideal stock for $8500.

I did not see Ralph, although Tom E thought he was going to be there. Simpson was there, and other folks.

I had a great time, and particularly enjoyed the hospitiality of George Anderson. I go to shows mostly to meet up with old friends and hopefully make some new ones. The after show bull sessions are especially rewarding as you can learn lots of new stuff and get to hear othe folks take on ideas.
The down side is that the last day of the show I was feeling a little "off" and have spent the last two days in bed with a miserable cold.
I do want to report that Sunday was a real treat for me. I got to see a gun that was being held under the table and only offered for limited viewing. It is a beautiful condition 10000-series, 7" barreled, fixed sights and push-button stock! Made my day.

Ron........I also enjoy meeting new collectors and listening to "Old Stories " like yours. Maybe the next book that Ed writes could include some of these facts. Vet Bring backs is a great book but I am sure there are many stories like the ones we shared.

Ron, Thanks for sharing the 7" barrel luger sighting. It's a pity that you weren't able to offer photographs. Do you recall whether anything was stamped on the chamber, like a South American country's crest? Hope you are feeling better. When one travels to a different place at this time of year, you are nothing but "food" for those nasty viruses!

There was no crest on the chamber and I would have been very suspicious if there was. It was "just" a stunning 1900 with a stock lug and a 7" barrel. The pushbutton stock was in super condition also.
