Default My first Luger

Just bought a 42 byf with bake lite brown grips. it has some holtser wear but parts numbers match up (accept magazine)
is there a serial number reference chart for these military Lugers or were the records destroyed in the war? is 2044 a low production number?

Brendan, welcome to the forum~!

There is not a specific rf chart, but if you give us full serial number and suffix, Frank might know an approx date....

I think they made over 100,000 byf 42's, so low number is how you look at it, as they made around the same number of byf 41's, etc....

Thank You the forum has been a great source
Where do I find the full serial number? I am guessing this is the last of the Mauser Lugers. I got this one for $500 the dealer was selling three the one for 1200 had matching holster tool and clip. now I am thinking I should have snapped that one up when I had the chance. It was my first big gun show with a pistol license I did not want to buy on the first pass through the dealer room.

Welcome Bren5
The brown bakelite grips might be Krieghoff grips. If you are able to post pictures, perhaps some of us can tell.

Now if that isn't the BIGGEST UNDERSTATEMENT I've heard all day. You bet its catchy. As long as my Wife doesn't catch me I'll do fine and live to buy more another day. LOL

Bren5, it's only the beginning my friend. Enjoy and happy hunting your other items.

The grips should be numbered to the gun from what I understand, mine are. Yes, a holster and tool are a must.
