Supposedly founding FBI director J. Edgar Hoover in the 1920s was in quest of the ideal pistol for his new agents to carry in the field. I heard somewhere that someone showed him a Merwin and Hulbert Pocket Army and he was instantly in love and directed that every agent would have one. Tragically for the young director, the gun had been out of production for about 35 years at the time.
