Dumb basic Luger Question: are they still being made?

I just purchased a Mitchell Luger that was part of an estate sale. It had never been shot before, so I took it to my gunsmith and had him check it out. After reading posts in this forum, I was concerned about the quality of this gun.

Those concerns were completely UNFOUNDED. I took it to the range and it gobbled up a box of 115 gran Remington ammo. Accuracy was impressive. 2.0" groups at 15 yards. With the minor exception of some machine marks on the interior of the gun, it is flawless. It is also matched-slide assembly to frame (ser. # on both). It is stamped 1991 and was manufactured by SPM, in Houston TX.

For those that don't know, SPM (Spanton Precision Machine) was the original company to manufacture the gun for Mitchell, Stoeger, Aimco, and Orimar. From the late 80's thru 2002, approximately 18 thousand were made. So, while it's not a collectible yet, it should be soon, as you can own one these- and shoot it, without wondering if the gun you now own was used to kill one of our boys in WWII!

For those that don't think much of these guns, I say too bad-for you! The LUGER that I'm shooting is very accurate, well built, and AMERICAN made.
