I took my basic training (Army) in October of 1967 with an M-14 made by TRW. Not as nice a finish as a Winchester version, but it was a real tack driver for as used as it was... it brought me the highest scores in my training battalion... I now own a Springfield Armory M1A in its honor... with about 10 magazines...

I remember a long day in November of the same year coming in from a day in the field completely covered in thick mud... I showered with my uniform boots and rifle till the mud was gone... spent the rest of the day cleaning and oiling my M14 and then polishing my boots until well after lights out... ...and those were the good ole days? Yeah they were...
