Hi Patrick,
If the S/42 is small, it indicates an armorer's replacement part. S/42 is a Mauser code. The numbers near the lanyard loop are "rack" numbers, if it's a police pistol. A provisional unit mark, if it's a military issue pistol. Welcome to the confusion... Ron
