Default WWII 1911 A1 Colt - a little help???

Hi folks,

I've been looking for a really nice example of a Colt manufactured 1911A1 (WWII) for a while. I bid on one about a year ago - and frankly - I'm not much of an "auction guy" (as you will see below )

However - and PLEASE DO NOT BID AGAINST ME!!! - can someone with Colt collecting knowledge help me out?? I'm bidding on this item:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=101349618

(Yea - that's me - "John D" - with ZERO feedback (HEH!!!) ) Does this Colt look correct? I have no reference books on 1911s - and another set of eyes would be great!!

My thanks!!!

John D.

you want a colt specific? I kind a partial to the Remington Rands, although I have a Ithaca here right now, no colts.

I am no colt epxpert, but just picked up a nice book called the Model 1911 and model 1911a1 military and commercial pistols by Joe Poyer, ray riling books has them (he was at the gun show today), like $30, and very updated, kind of a thickened Clausen but newer.

and you know this site I am sure; http://www.coolgunsite.com/

there is also the 1911 site, http://forums.1911forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30 but I don't really like visiting them, they have a few jerks and are extremly intolernent for asking prices, values or that they "think" you might be selling, or god-forbid asking about somehting on auction. I have reservations of recommending anyone go there.

Hey Ed..!

Yep - I have a Remington Rand already (you saw it - I think - it's a RIG?) - and want a Colt..??? I'll take a look for Mr. Poyer's book at Rilings (shoot - I've bought more books from them than I have shelf space ) - and thanks for the info on that!!!

Best to you!

John

I sure am... BUT - the prices!!!??!! Yikers..!!??!

I keep on looking for a Colt that doesn't have Jen throwing me out of the house - along with all my collection.. Wait-a-minute - that wouldn't be too bad - but, I think she threatened to "drag my collection behind a fast moving car" and then give them back...

Seriously - on the auction - does it look "right"??

My sincerest thanks!!!!!

John

John,
That is one of the nicest examples I have seen. Usually they have been "arsenal refinished" or have much more wear. Looks like that one spent it's service time in a desk drawer. Priced about right at the present bid, but could go up to $2500 or so.
