I bought a shooter luger recently and had Hugh add a new barrel to it. I took it out to shoot today and it worked great. On the way home I realized I know how to take the gun apart and clean it, but I don't know how or with what to lubricate. I searched lubrication, lubricate and lubrication points, but did not find a good answer. What parts do I lubricate and what should I use as a lubricant?
Any info would be great. I realize you older forum guys have probably heard this question a million times, but I'm kind of new hear and would like to find out the right thing to do. ![]() |

Hi,
The luger has a very tight action that needs little or no lubrication. I usually just wipe the small parts with a very, very light amount of oil (rag, brush). The only parts that can do with some lubrication are the receiver / frame rails. I also put a small drop in between the toggle joints, the extractor and the sear, wiping off excess oil with a rag. I try to keep the firing pin and the side plate as dry as possible, no serious amounts of oil on those parts. The original manuals suggested coating the frame rails with vaseline, but again, here a light coat of gun oil will do the trick. The oil actually mostly serves as rust proofing, not serious lubrication. |
