Skip step number 3, it isn't necessary to remove the grip to field strip a Luger. If you do remove the left grip, you must be very careful to push up slightly on the bottom of the grip from inside the frame to free it up then slide the grip down so you do not break off the small protrusion of the grip under the safety lever. This is very important as this is a very common break, so much so that the missing piece is called the "million dollar chip" since countless Lugers have been devalued somewhat because of this missing piece. Skip step number 4! Nobody can figure out what the heck that is supposed to do...it sure as shootin' has nothing to do with the safety catch. You can beat on the frame till the cows come home and nothing will happen except dents in your screwdriver.
