Default P38 front sight on a 6 Luger

Hi
I have an upper with the 6 sarco barrel, standard height sight base.
Which height P38 sight works best? These are the taller ones that GPC has;
.270
.265
.255

Or is it better to use a blank Mauser 98 sight? Maybe the P38 sights arenâ??t high enough?
Thanks!

Savary,

You forgot to mention, are you using a standard rear toggle or a Navy rear toggle?

The Navy rear toggle needs a 6 inch barrel with the matching front sight base that is about 2.5mm higher than the standard front sight base...

If using a standard rear toggle/sight combination... The standard Luger front sight is 5.4mm high above the sight base... (or 0.212598425 inches)

The highest front sight blade for the standard model is 5.7mm above the front sight base (or 0.224409449 inches)

Both of these heights are considerably shorter than the sight blade sizes you mentioned... but that is to your advantage... You can't buy one too low.

My advice would be to get the highest P.38 front sight... and then shoot it in as you file it down to the correct size...do your filing carefully to maintain the flat on top profile of the sight until you get it the correct height for your sight picture, and then rounding down the front sight curved edge proportionally to maintain the contours... Don't file the rear surface of the sight blade so you don't end up with a shiney surface facing you as you aim. By squaring off the rear notch carefully to match as close as possible the width of the new front sight, you should have a dandy shooter!

Good luck and let us know how you make out with this project.

Hi,
Yes I'm using a standard rear toggle.
I'll get the highest one and see how its shoots.
Thanks for the info!
