Default luger marking on 1921 dwm S.D.V.171.

Does anyone know what these marks S.D.V.171. on the front strap mean?

Schutzpolizei Dusseldorf district 5 weapon 171....not Luger 171, but weapon 171.

Actually, it is Luger number 171. The Prussian Schupo numbered different types of weapons in separate number series. Lugers were numbered in one series, Mauser M1914s in another, bayonets in another, etc., etc.

Joe, may we know the serial number and letter suffix of this pistol and whether or not it has or had sear or mag safeties?

JD, I can post pictures if you'd like.

Has a sear and magazine safety, the magazines safety has been removed / clipped off, a normal occurance.
