Question What's the Best Book?

I don't have any luger books yet and I was wondering what the best one out there is. Is there one out there that focuses primarily on Imperial Lugers? I don't care much for the WWII Lugers but any good book will do. What do you guys consider the Luger "Bible?"

I can't find that one. Are you referring to Jan Still's whole four volume series? The Imperial Lugers book by Jan Still sounds like what I'm looking for but it is out of print . Do you know where I could find a copy?

Central Powers is the new one, and although it does not "replace" Imperial Lugers, it icomes close and is an excellent book. It is sold directly by Jan and you can order from him.

Quote:
CENTRAL POWERS PISTOLS, THE GREAT WAR PISTOLS OF GERMANY, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY, TURKEY AND BULGARIA (Volume I, ISBN 1-893513-12-2) is the first book in the series Imperial Lugers, Weimar and Early Nazi Lugers, Third Reich Lugers, and Axis Pistols all by Jan C. Still.

This book was prepared with the help of the World class collectors that post on the German Lugers, Central Powers and Axis Pistols Forum, the Luger Forum, and the NAPCA Forum. This book will only be advertised at these three internet sites. Please let your collector friends that are not computer literate know that this book is for sale.

CENTRAL POWERS PISTOLS is a high quality, hard cover, full sized book with over 450 pages. Almost 150 pistol types, variations and subvariations are described in word and with over 1000 high quality digital color photographs crafted into 250 pages of illustrations. Color allows the collector to see the normal affect of age on the finish of 89-105 year old pistols (discoloration, fine freckles and patina are visible).

Each pistol type is shown on the left and right side and detailed enlargements are shown of the markings, acceptance stamps, and proofs. Serial number and data tables let the collector know how his pistol fits into the overall scheme of production, issue and use. Holsters are covered in illustrations and captions with over 60 rigs shown. The unit markings of over 75 pistols are illustrated and identified. Tables to identify unit markings for the Imperial German Army, Navy, and police and to identify the unit markings on Imperial Austro-Hungarian arms are included. (Note: the Luger section replaces Imperial Lugers, however coverage of accessories is limited to the illustrations and captions.)

Included in word and picture are the following pistols: Luger DWM: 1902 GT, 1906, 1908-1918, 1908 CA, 1914 CA, 1908 R.G., 1914 R.G.; LP08 1914-1918; Navy 1904, 1906,1908, 1916,1917 1908 CN, P08 Navy; Bulgarian 1900, 1906, 1908; 1900 US Test, 1902 CC Test, 1907 .45cal US Test; Luger ERFURT: 1910-1914, 1916-1918; LP08 1914. Mauser: M1896 Large Ring Trans. Test; M1896 Flatside Test, M1896/12, Red 9, M1896/12 Austrian, M1896 Ottoman, Finnish; Mauser: 1914, 1912/14; Walther: Model 6, Model 4; Dreyse: 9mm, 1907; FL Selbstlader; Beholla, Menta, Sauer 1913, Roth Sauer, Jager, Ortigies. Steyr Hahn: Bavarian, Romanian, Austrian: 1914-1918. Browning: 1900, 1903, 1906, 1910; 1908 Bayard, 1910 Bergman Bayard; Frommer Stop: German, Austro-Hungarian. Frommer Baby. Roth Steyr Steyr, Roth Steyr Fegyvergyar. Steyr 1909; Mannlicher; M 1897 RothTheodorovie. Revolvers: M79 Reichsrevolver: M83 Reichsrevolver; L. Gasser, Rast Gasser;

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Important note: Each book is shrink wrapped and pre-sealed in its box and stamp signed on its cover. Because all these books are already stamp signed, books signed again on the inside page are not available.

FOREIGN ORDERS FOR CENTRAL POWERS PISTOLS
My wife just returned from climbing Mount Chirripo (12530 ft) in Costa Rica. She will accept Paypal for foreign orders only. Add $5 to the cost of each book to cover the surcharge.
Her E-Mail address is: fstill@ak.net
Thanks
Jan

Repeat to avoid confusion:
CENTRAL POWERS PISTOLS: The cost for each book is $88.
Postage for each book is $10 United States, $23 Canada, and $37 Europe.
For example: cost to send one book to Europe is $125 ($88+$37).
Cost to send two books to Europe is $250 ($125+$125).
Profits are marginal on these books and any excess postage paid goes to the author.

Note: Price subject to increase in 2008. Make sure you have a current price. Sales of Central Powers Pistols have been excellent! This is due to word of mouth from collector to collector. As long as I do not have to advertise or conduct wholesale sales the price will remain the same $88 ($98 with postage). Thanks for the support of fellow collectors.

Max,
Central Powers is a wonderful reference and it covers all Imprerial military Lugers but it does not cover commercial Lugers. Imperial Lugers covers both.

Thanks for the suggestions! If I can't find a cheaper copy of Imperial Lugers I'll just submit an order for Central Powers Pistols.
