Originally the Luger was not expected to be accurate beyond 80-110 meters. The army decided to "regularize" the sight for 50 meters, and this is specified in the 1913 Inspection and Acceptance instructions. This was a modification carried out in 1913 along with the holdopen retrofit. Lugers so retrofitted have a small e/letter stamp on the front sigt base. (Still, Walter, GÃ?Â¶rtz & Bryans)
