Steve, it is a common misonception. Police lugers came from many sources;
1. Imperial lugers, sometimes they were completely refurbished, sometimes not 2. DWM New manufacture in the 1920's (probably 1919-1921) and then late 1920's 3. New simson manufacture, some in the mid 1920's, many more early 1933-34 timeframe 4. Mauser made police guns late 1930's on... 5. A small number of kreighoffs were made into police with sear safetys 6. Then they recieved sear and sometimes mag safety's 1932 with mag safetys coming off in the late 1930's When they went in for sear safety and / or when they went for magazine safety removal, they had a large hole that had to be fixed (but not always), so they could ahve been refurbished then. Also, if a gun needed to be refurbished, they would be (i.e. normal wear and tear...) Ed
