Well, I don't remember seeing any 100th Ann. P.06s, so I don't have high hopes for the P.08. Just for grins, who do you think would make it if it were to be made? Who has the drawings/machinery? Mitchell/Stoeger? Does Mauser still exist? We were talking about possible 100th Ann. 1911s on another forum, and of course there will be many varieties of those, because they're still being made (more every year). But the Luger is a bit of a sticky wicket. I imagine start-up costs would be enormous. A run of ten-thousand would probably cost $5000 each. I guess if Stoeger put out a run of stainless steel ones like before, that would be good enough, and could probably be done a lot cheaper. Still would be $1200, but that's about the threshold price for a commemorative, it seems. Would anybody want one?

Krieghoff made a limited production of lugers a year or 2 ago, and they cost 12k each

They are considerably more than $12K; IIRC, they are closing in on $18K as they are priced in Euros.

If anyone were planning a 100th Commemoretive, they would have had to plan several years in advance. As it is now, by the time they finish planning, 2008 will be long gone. With Stoeger being owned by Beretta, it would require even bigger planning for them to get everything right...

Sax, Aimco did produce about 150 stainless 100th anniversary 7.65x150mm barrelled M1900 replicas in 2000. These were available for sale at the Jan 2000 NAPCA convertion in KC @$1250, but did not sell well. TH

You gotta wonder what these guys use for brains! I bet they walked out of that show without a clue as to why they didn't sell. One word Aimco: stainless!!! Hello! Anybody home? You won't be able to sell any 1911s painted with smiley faces either. Pink PPKs are right out too. Anybody there Aimco? (Lights are on, but there doesn't seem to be anybody home!) Hey, if you "improve" the original, you are not going to sell it!!!! Can you say, "new coke"? Lugerdoc, I don't think anybody's there. All I hear is an echo.

As far as I recall, other than installing the longer 7.65mm barrel and milling the checkering off of the toggle knobs, it was pretty much the standard Aimco stainless special. TH

The one I bid on at Gunbroker.com two or three years ago had a black mat finish. It looked pretty good in the photos, but who knows what it would have shown like "in person". Sieger PS: The presentation box was nice, too. |

They had a pretty good matte black finish. The thing is, for what you would pay for one you can get a pretty nice 'real' one. I think this has been the problem all along, plus they're not a true clone.

Hi Saxman:
The note at the bottom of your message caught my eye. Now, there is a second verse of this old saying that you may not have heard. "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink...but you can sure have a hell of a lot of fun drownding the bastard." Now, how is that for a forceful conclusion. My Drill Instructor used this old saying frequently! Ha!! Yes, we did get the message! Sieger |
